Description
In the early 1990s, in a working-class neighbourhood of Šiauliai, Lithuania, rebellious 17-year-old Rimants spends his days playing rugby, listening to Eurobeat, and hustling on the black market like everyone around him at that time. He is looking for a better life for himself. His best friend Minde shares the same belief that strength and money are the keys to success in this tough, fast-changing world. But when Rimants meets Monika, a cultured middle-class girl, he discovers a new universe of books, music, and ideas that challenge everything he knows. A humorous, nostalgic, and vibrant coming-of-age story capturing the spirit, slang, and energy of 1990s Šiauliai, showing the awkwardness and struggles of a teenager growing up.
Critics Reviews
"l'll admit that Ignas Miškinis’ feature film, The Southern Chronicles, grabbed me by the shoulders and thrust me into a time machine destined for the 80s. The film industry in Lithuania may not have the glitz and glamour of modern Hollywood, but the indie spirit of 80s Hollywood." - Alan Ng, Editor-in-Chief of FilmThreat.com
