“In Darkness” is a tense, slow-burning survival drama set against the backdrop of a mysterious societal collapse in Estonia. At its heart lies a fractured family: Andres, the father; Adeele and Jako, his children; and the absent mother, who has left Andres for another man.
The family is torn—not just by the chaos erupting around them, but by unresolved emotional wounds. The children long to reunite with their mother. Andres, heartbroken and unable to face her or her new life, believes it's best to keep the children away. His decision to drive them out of the city into isolation at an old farmhouse is both an act of protection and avoidance. As the world outside deteriorates, so does Andres’s mental state—while Adeele slowly grows into a protector of her brother and father.
The show explores themes of abandonment, parental love, survival, emotional denial, and the resilience of children in the face of trauma.
