Thriller

In Darkness is a tense and emotionally charged drama series that delves into the struggle for survival of an Estonian family after a sudden societal and infrastructural collapse.

When the city goes dark – literally – newly divorced Andres is faced with painful choices: whether to give his children the chance to see their mother, who has found a new life in another city, or to keep them away from a world that is falling apart by the hour. Teenage daughter Adeele longs for contact with her mother, young son Jako seeks a sense of security. But the children's father Andres is deeply depressed by the divorce and does not want to let go of his children. There is no electricity. Food and water are running out. Rumor has it that the "green men" have sabotaged the main power lines. People are becoming increasingly dangerous to each other. Andres decides to take the children to the countryside, away from the crumbling society, but also away from the truth. What starts as a desire to protect soon turns into an obsession. And common sense begins to crumble.

The series tells the story of an Estonian family trying to survive, maintain their humanity, and find their way back to each other. It is a story of love that can become destructive, it is a story of abandonment, inner darkness – and hope that persists even when the last lights go out.

The story has a greater, psychological depth: the father-daughter relationship, moral gray areas, spiritual decay. The series can be watched with the whole family, but it is more deeply understandable for adults, parents of children. In Darkness gives viewers a detailed overview of what happens in people's lives when suddenly the daily routine and coping disappear. When suddenly we are faced with complete ignorance. It is a realistically depicted post-disaster Estonia, just without zombies or the supernatural.
